Mojave County, Arizona (KTNV) – A skeleton discovered in Mojave County last fall has been identified as belonging to a man who was reported missing nearly three years ago.
Mojave County Sheriff’s Department officials identified the body as that of 30-year-old Jordan Victor Carvalho of Golden Valley.
A source said in a news release on Tuesday that Carvalho’s family had reported him missing on September 30, 2019, after not being contacted for several weeks.
On September 12, 2022, a human skull was found in a washroom at Block 2700 North Ligurta Street in Golden Valley. At the time, detectives said the skull was washed up during recent flooding in the area.
The body was taken to the Mojave County coroner’s office, but investigators were unable to identify it with certainty.
Mojave County investigators enlisted the help of Osram’s forensic genealogists to identify the bodies. Researchers investigated the relationship between the remains and Carvalho through advanced DNA testing and forensic-grade genome sequencing, sheriff officials said.
A sheriff’s office spokesman said, “Given the condition of the body at the time of its discovery, no official cause of death could be determined.”
