Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan and Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell fell prostrate on the floor of the House Wednesday over questions about the FISA warrant.
Swalwell began questioning FBI Director Christopher Wray, saying Jordan did not respond to a congressional subpoena to testify at the Jan. 6 hearing. Mr. Swalwell then asked Ray to describe the consequences investigators face in the course of their work, such as the disclosure of personal information and, in some cases, death. After a brief conversation, Swalwell turned his attention to Jordan.
“Chairman, I’ve counted in this hearing, and it’s only been about an hour and a half, and the word ‘laptop’ has been used about 20 times. In fact, the Chairman said in his opening statement. ,said he was mad that the FBI thought it prevented more Americans from finding out about civilian laptops. It’s bananas to me.You guys are bringing up FISA with every question You are essentially telling the American public that they are protectors of personal safety and privacy, yet the FBI has failed to show more Americans the non-consensual nudity of civilians. Is that what we’re saying here?” Swalwell said. “You lost the election not because of your ideas, but because there were no civilian laptops out there? should be.”
“Can you give me the answer?” I heard Jordan ask.
“That seems to be the objection here today. Rather, we should be talking about the mass shootings of the last 10 days, and this hearing has turned into a complete mess,” Mr Swalwell continued.
“Gentlemen’s time is over,” Jordan said before answering Swalwell’s allegations. “We’re bringing up FISA because, even if this gentleman didn’t know, FISA will be reauthorized at the end of this year. And that was in our witness’s opening statement. I didn’t-“
“Chairman, who are you talking to?” Swalwell pressed. (Related: FBI Director Dodges Massey’s Question About Jan. 6 Pipe Bomb Investigation)
“The judge last week, on the 4th of July—,” Jordan continued, before Swalwell interrupted again.
“Whose time? Turn, whose time are you speaking?”
“What I’m talking about is… it’s not the order. I recognize the gentleman from Arizona,” Jordan said before giving time to Republican Rep. Andy Biggs.
Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gates, who was one of several lawmakers who questioned Mr. Wray about the illegal FISA warrant, said the court found that. 200,000 The FISA investigation was illegal. Mr. Ray said he did not know the total number.
