PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors last week approved more than $2.2 million in funding for youth summer labor jobs.
The Board unanimously approved that the program will provide employment opportunities to eligible young people between the ages of 16 and 21 over the summer of 2023-2024.
Young people will be matched with job opportunities within specified high-demand industries, according to the agency. Maricopa County Press Release.
The program’s commitment is to ensure a comprehensive approach to youth development and workforce preparation. Prioritizing access and inclusiveness, it aims to reach participants in cities and towns beyond the greater Phoenix area, according to a press release.
This program is offered in partnership with two organizations: The Greater Phoenix Urban League and Equus Workforce Solutions.
GPUL has raised over $16 million to run two summer programs. The 2023 program begins on his July 1st and runs through September 30th. In 2024, it will reopen from February 1st to September 30th.
Equus received $596,819 to operate the 2024 program from February 1 through September 2024.
