Former Pinal County teacher gets probation for child abuse charge

Pinal County, Arizona — A former Pinal County teacher who was arrested in 2018 for having an inappropriate relationship with a minor student was recently placed on supervised probation.

Earlier this year, Andrew Hensley, 43, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually motivated child abuse, a fourth-degree felony.

Hensley was sentenced to 15 years of supervised probation in Pinal County Superior Court last month, according to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office.

The PCAO said a decision on whether Ms. Hensley should be registered as a sex offender was postponed by the court until an examination and evaluation was completed.

Hensley was a lecturer in fire science at the Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology in Coolidge.

In the summer of 2018, authorities launched an investigation after allegations surfaced that Hensley had had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.
