Amit Sahaslavdeh and his wife said they are enjoying the company of their rescue dog, Jack, while staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Maricopa County Animal Care and Control Authority is pushing the dog out of the shelter after temperatures hit a record 119 degrees Celsius this week in Phoenix.

The county aims to have 119 dogs in foster homes by August 1, but the county shelter has been running at capacity since June. We currently have about 800 dogs.

Without enough individual kennels, shelters had to divide certain enclosures into two halves, with some dogs living outdoors.

Fields Moseley of Maricopa County said shelters use swamp coolers and fans to keep dogs from overheating.

“Hopefully people will get these dogs in late summer and early fall, when it’s a little cooler and being in a shelter isn’t so stressful,” Moseley said.

Potential foster parents must complete the following conditions Online application before going to the shelter.
