3.8 magnitude earthquake detected in Yavapai County

Yavapai County, Arizona — A magnitude 3.8 earthquake was detected in Yavapai County near Chino Valley on Sunday afternoon.

U.S. Geological Survey officials said the quake struck just before 2 p.m.

The Yavapai County Emergency Management Department said it had received reports of tremors in Prescott, Prescott Valley, and Chino Valley, as well as Jerome, Skull Valley, and People’s Valley.

No injuries or damage were reported, county officials said. People have also reported feeling the tremor for about 15 seconds, ranging from “like a car hitting a house” to “like a dog hitting a sofa.”
