Arizona sheriff hopes immigration resources include Cochise County

PHOENIX – The Arizona town sheriff said he hopes President Joe Biden’s promise to send resources to cities and towns on the Southwestern Border will include more security.

“When the president says… ‘I’ll get you supplies,’ I hope it’s more than just humanitarian relief, not supplies to El Paso, Texas. We need border security.” ‘ said Cochise County Sheriff Mark Danells. KTAR News 92.3 FM Arizona Morning News on Monday.

“I applaud the president for going to the southwest border. It’s the first step in recognizing that we have a problem,” he said.

The president spent four hours in El Paso on Sunday. This is his first visit to the border since being elected to the White House.

“They need a lot of resources. We’re going to get it for them,” Biden said after inspecting a busy customs port and speaking with a border patrol officer.

Biden said on Thursday that immigrants from Cuba, Haiti and Nicaragua who illegally crossed the border from Mexico were subject to expedited deportation under new immigration rules announced Thursday.

The border “doesn’t work right now,” Mr Dunnells said.

Another rule denies entry to asylum seekers who do not apply for asylum in the first country they pass through en route to the United States.

“I welcome the president saying, ‘Let’s work together to solve this problem.’ I will be the first to help with that,” said Dunnells.
