Lawyer Says ‘Political Speech’ Is Being ‘Criminally Prosecuted’ At ‘Highest Levels’ In Wake Of Trump Indictment

Lawyers said Tuesday that “political speech” is being “criminally prosecuted” by the Biden administration following Tuesday’s indictment of former President Donald Trump.

Special Counsel Jack Smith has secured four counts of indictment against Trump in connection with his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results. “These charges, like those we’ve never seen before, are politically motivated. This indictment reads like it was written by Adam Schiff himself, or the 6th January Commission itself. Gene Hamilton, vice president and general counsel for the America First Legal Foundation, told Fox News host Jesse Watters.

“This is a rehash of a series of First Amendment-protected activities that explain the president’s actions, draw conclusions, advance legal claims against Donald Trump, and ensure that Donald Trump is questioned.” “Because he questioned a different question than many Americans question,” Hamilton continued.

Smith had previously secured 37 indictments against Trump in June based on an alleged investigation into classified documents, and Mar-a-Lago maintenance worker Carlos de Mar, issued Thursday. It was supplemented by a substitute indictment containing charges against Mr. Oliveira. Florida real estate owned by former President Trump.

“We are currently in a situation where there is dissent at the highest level against a major political opponent of the incumbent President of the United States and criminal prosecution for political speech, but I don’t know if that will shock you. I don’t know, what will happen,” Hamilton continued.
