Piedmont maintained its top spot in the Bay Area Newsgroup’s high school girls’ basketball rankings after extending its season opener winning streak to seven games last week with a win over California.

The Highlanders, who defeated former No. 1 Archbishop Mitty on December 10, will try to keep up the frenzied start this week in a tournament in Snohomish County, Washington.

Mitty, Carondelet and Salesian are back from the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona with just three losses in the process.

The Bay Area trio finished in the top five with three wins and one loss each.

Berian Christian, who is 3-0 since his last drop in the rankings, has moved up from 13th to 10th.

This week’s newcomer is Head Royce. Oakland school he is 6-0.
