MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — One very happy cat has found her own “owner” home after joining Maricopa County's Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Program.

Introducing Dale, the first pet adopted through. Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Animal Safe Shelter Program In 2024.

Dale the cat was initially seized as “evidence,” along with other animals cared for by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office's animal shelter program. A task force called MASH provides care, feeding and protection for “evidence” animals like Dale, or animals captured during MCSO abuse and neglect investigations.

The animals are rehabilitated by inmates, which allows both those who care for abandoned animals and those who care for them to learn work and life skills. According to the unit's website.
