Western Arizona Counties Unite to Block Future Relocation to Queen Creek
Yuma, Arizona (KECY, KYMA) – Yuma County continues to fight for water rights.
Join the counties of La Paz and Mojave, participate in the lawsuit against the Bureau of Reclamation, and unify western Arizona.
Prior to this, Yuma County Supervisors unanimously decided to consolidate resources in November.
Participated in a lawsuit concerning the transfer of 2,000 acre feet of water from La Paz County to Queen Creek in central Arizona.
The overall goal of the lawsuit is to prevent the future transfer of Colorado River water to Queen Creek.
The lawsuit, which names the Reuse Authority as a defendant, disputes the agency’s assertion that water transfer does not have a significant impact on the environment.
“This sends a message from the Utah border to the Mexican border. Counties in western Arizona oppose the BOR findings of no significant impact,” said Travis Lingenfelter, Mojave County Supervisor. said.
The City of Yuma may also join the lawsuit against the Rehabilitation Bureau.
The city council will vote on the issue at its next meeting Wednesday.
