La Paz County Sheriff’s sergeant fatally struck by vehicle

Sergeant Michael Rudd was killed during a police pursuit near the Arizona-California border on Monday morning.

LA PAZ COUNTY, Ariz. — Authorities say a La Paz County sheriff's sergeant was killed when he was hit by a vehicle during a pursuit near the Arizona-California border.

Sheriff's officials say: Michael Ladd got out of his car and then collided head-on with a commercial vehicle along Interstate 10 early Monday morning.

They said Rudd was rushed to a hospital in Blythe, California, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Ladd was promoted to sergeant in March and had been employed in La Paz County since 2013.

Authorities said the pursuit suspect was taken into custody while the driver of the commercial vehicle remained at the scene.

The pursuit took place on Interstate 10 near milepost 37.
