Former CIA Director Leon Panetta warned Tuesday that the Chinese Communist Party (CPP) could use Democratic Party-backed green energy factories to spy on Americans.
Panetta said during Tuesday's hearing held by the House Select Committee on CCP in Washington, D.C., that the Chinese Communist Party could use Gorshon's planned facility in Michigan to conduct espionage operations. . Gouchon has ties to the Chinese Communist Party through its China-based parent company. Goshon Hitech is poised to build a massive electric vehicle (EV) battery factory in Michigan with the help of strong taxpayer subsidies promoted by Democrats.
“A Chinese company is building an electric vehicle battery factory in my district. As part of the project, they plan to bring 20 to 50 Chinese people to Michigan. What do you think are the chances that a citizen will engage in Chinese Communist Party espionage while in the United States?'' Republican Rep. John Moolener of Michigan asked Panetta, who led the CIA and served as Secretary of State in the Trump administration, to and Mike Pompeo.
“I don't think there's any question that they're going to take advantage of that situation. And I think we need to be very vigilant about what the heck is going on. That's how they do it. “Yes,” Panetta replied. “They will set up manufacturing units, establish everything they can and use it for their own intelligence purposes. They will use it for their own economic purposes. And they will be able to get whatever advantages they want, which frankly is against the interests of the United States.” (Related: Exclusive: Employees of Chinese company helping build US battery factory release video wearing Red Army costume and pledging life to the Chinese Communist Party)
In his testimony during the hearing, Secretary Pompeo agreed with Panetta's assessment of the potential risks posed by the Gothion facility.
“I think it's worse than the fact that they engage in espionage. I think that's only at the top of the list,” Pompeo said during a panel discussion. “They will use this in a way that leverages China's advantage. These power plants are extremely dangerous to national security and should not be built.”
