Tom Hochul, the former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), on Thursday criticized New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul on Fox News, questioning her recent calls for a tougher stance on the issue. He denounced his role in the state's immigration crisis.
Homan appeared on “The Ingraham Angle” to talk about the recent attack on two New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers who were allegedly assaulted by a group of immigrants. Fox host Laura Ingraham asked the former ICE director her thoughts on Hochul's tougher stance on immigration after the incident.
Homan said he “doesn't believe a word” of what the governor has said and condemned his “actions” that have allowed the state's immigration crisis to continue. The former ICE director listed the policies Hochul has supported and stressed that if she wanted to “take action,” she would change her position on the list Hochul described. “No, I don't believe a word of her word. Her actions speak louder than words. If she meant what she said, why is ICE illegally holding court on its way to court?” Is there a state law that prohibits arresting overstayers? [on] On the way home from court? Why is she enacting a green light law that prevents ICE from accessing New York state DMV data and criminal history data?'' Homan questioned.
“In fact, every law enforcement agency in New York is required to sign a commitment that states: [if] Sharing these data with ICE and Border Patrol prevents them from accessing DMV data. If she's really serious, why would she ask for $2.8 billion to resettle aliens living in her state illegally? And finally, she's the Senate Minority Leader , received a letter from New York State's minority legislative leader asking them to send in the National Guard to assist Texas.,” Mr. Hongman continued.
“So, if she really means what she says, here are four things you can do right now to take action.'' But then again, she said, [doesn’t] When she says, she means an open borders governor. She opened the state to illegal immigrants and lured them to come to New York. Not only can you get a driver's license, but [but] They can get jobs and because it's a sanctuary city, they're protected from law enforcement,” Homan said.
Suspected illegal immigrants were initially arrested and charged after an alleged attack on an NYPD officer in Times Square on Saturday. But by Wednesday, the group was released without bail and began switching off their cameras as they left the police station. In response to the incident, Hochul said Wednesday that deportation of illegal immigrants should be considered, adding, “I hope that the judges and prosecutors will do the right thing.” Record numbers of illegal border crossings are occurring at the southern border, and sanctuary cities like New York City are seeing an influx of migrants.
Hochul advocated for New York City's suburbs to end their “bigoted policies” and begin admitting immigrants in May 2023, following Democratic Mayor Eric Adams' move to house immigrants in suburban communities.
