News Flash • Maricopa County Marks Domestic Violence Awarene

Maricopa County employees will wear purple tomorrow to demonstrate their commitment to ending domestic violence as part of a month of education efforts across county government.

Today, the Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is an annual recognition designed to support survivors and reduce intimate partner violence in our community.

“Intimate relationships can sometimes bring out the best in us, but they can also bring out the worst,” said District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo. If you find yourself in that situation, Maricopa County and our community partners have the resources to support you financially and emotionally. ”

As part of this year's campaign, Coach Gallardo is hosting employee education events at various locations throughout the county throughout this week. These events include a table of resources and, in some cases, speakers. The Maricopa County Administration Building, located at 301 W. Jefferson St., will be lit purple throughout this month. And tomorrow (October 19), county employees will be encouraged to come to work wearing purple to show their support for the campaign.

Beyond our annual awareness efforts, Maricopa County continues to invest in solutions for residents affected by intimate partner violence. Over the past year, Maricopa County's $10 million investment to help domestic violence victims has provided 31,506 unique clients with shelter, counseling, legal and financial assistance, and separation from their abusers. and other services to help them establish independence and security.
