Namibia’s President Hage Geingob Dead At 82

Namibia's President Hage Geingob died on Sunday at the age of 82, the Associated Press reported.

Mr Geingob died at Lady Pohamba Hospital where he was being treated for cancer. according to To AP. According to the newspaper, his office previously disclosed his cancer treatment, which included a series of medical procedures in January. Despite receiving a short period of new treatment in the United States, Geingob fell ill soon after returning home.

Geingob, the third president of the country since independence in 1990, was serving his second and final term. The newspaper reported that his leadership was characterized by a dedication to Namibia's stability and development, highlighted by his background as an anti-apartheid activist and his tenure as the country's first prime minister.

Geingob was known for his deft diplomacy, navigating the complex dynamics of African politics and development while fostering relationships with the West and China. The newspaper said his balanced stance, particularly on China's involvement in Africa, showed his pragmatic approach to foreign policy. Vice President Angolo Mbumba (82) was appointed acting president. He called on the public to remain calm during this time. “The Cabinet will be convened immediately to make the necessary national arrangements in this regard,” he said, according to the Associated Press.
