Abe Hamadeh seeking new trial in his election challenge

The Republican candidate has filed a motion for a new trial in Mojave County challenging his election.

MOHAVE COUNTY, Arizona — Republican Abe Hamade is seeking a new trial in the campaign over the candidate’s loss to Arizona Attorney General Chris Mays.

A judge dismissed Hamade’s case last week, ruling that the 31-year-old candidate had not presented sufficient evidence to challenge the results of the 2022 general election.

Results from a recent recount still declared Mays the winner of the race for the state’s top attorney, but Hamade said Pinal County’s counting errors were evidence to contest Mays’ narrow victory. I claim there is.

On the original canvas, Mayes defeated Hamadeh by just 511 votes. However, the recount narrowed Mays’ victory to his 280 votes.

The major discrepancies have been attributed to the reported “human error” in Pinal County.

Hamade’s lawyers are now trying to argue that Pinal County’s wrongdoing amounted to disenfranchisement of voters, giving it grounds to resue in the 2022 election. The candidate further suggests that the disagreement was not made public before a Mojave County judge initially dismissed Hamade’s challenge.

“Pinal County has adopted a rigorous process to uncover serious issues related to voter disenfranchisement. On behalf of Arizona voters, we seek an accurate vote count. No more, no less. But no.”

Pinal County officials said Wednesday they have received a court order not to publicly discuss the recount results until they are certified by a judge.

Under Arizona law, Hamade must prove that not only were the election officials at fault, but they would have won the election if there were no allegations of wrongdoing.
