Lawyers for Mr. Roman named Mr. Wade in their filings as friends who could confirm that the relationship began before Mr. Willis became district attorney, but this does not mean Mr. Wade was affiliated with Mr. Willis. That contrasted with claims in an affidavit attached to the Monday application that the relationship did not begin before 2022.
“Willis and Wade maintain that they had no personal romantic relationship prior to Willis appointing Wade as special counsel, but Terrence Bradley disputes that claim. ” Roman’s attorney, Ashley Merchant, said in the filing. “Bradley is an attorney and a member of the Georgia State Bar. Bradley and Wade have been friends and business associates. Bradley said Wade and Willis were romantically involved, and Willis was married to Georgia in January 2021. I have unprivileged personal knowledge that this began before I became District Attorney of Fulton County.”
In Friday's filing, Merchant also alleged two previously undisclosed trips that Wade and Willis took together, a Bahamas cruise in December 2022 and a trip to Belize in March 2023. .
In August, Willis secured a 13-count indictment against Trump and other defendants, including Roman, over the former president's efforts to challenge the state's 2020 election results.
Wade reportedly earned $250 an hour while working on the case against Trump, according to billing records obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, but RICO expert John Floyd It was $200 an hour. Other documents obtained by DCNF show that Floyd was initially paid $150 an hour.
Wade received more than $650,000 in fees for his work on the case. according to In Fulton County Records.

“It is clear that the district attorney and her personally appointed special prosecutor enriched themselves with this case,” Merchant said in the filing. “That wealth has taken many forms, including the incredible amount of money Willis paid Wade, resulting in meaningless vacations and hotel stays. Willis has no personal financial interest in the case or his official duties as a prosecutor. ” (Related article: 'She's had her hands full': Trump lawyer accuses Fani Willis of 'corruption' and 'election interference')
Mr. Willis denied any wrongdoing in a speech at Big Bethel AME Church on January 14, falsely claiming that he paid outside prosecutors the same fee while calling out his critics as a “candidate.'' “It's happening,” he accused. Roman's lawyers took note of the speech, saying her “inflammatory statements” reflected both “illegal activity” and “personal interest” in the case.
“Willis and Wade were not candid about their relationship in the trial court, and there is no reason to believe they are now telling the truth,” Roman's attorneys wrote in their filing. and asked the court to hold an evidentiary hearing on this matter. .
Willis did not immediately respond to a request for comment from DCNF.
