Black voters told Fox News host Lawrence Jones on Saturday's “Fox & Friends Weekend” segment why they are voting for former President Donald Trump ahead of South Carolina's Republican primary.
Jones attended a Black Conservative Coalition gala in Columbia ahead of the state's Republican primary and interviewed several attendees who expressed support for Trump.
“Black people just need to come and understand that the Republican Party is not the enemy,” one woman told Jones. “This side of the fence is good.”
When asked about the main issues that will drive Black voters to the polls in 2024, interviewees cited the economy under President Joe Biden and the border crisis. “You can't fool what happens at the grocery store,” one man told Jones, referring to high inflation in the United States. “Everyone is suffering right now,” said another woman.
One man pointed out that guests at the gala from Chicago, New York and Texas were “sick of immigration.” Another prospective voter agreed, saying Biden's policies “prioritize illegal immigrants over urban voters.” (Related: Teamsters make first donation to RNC, records show; RNC denies receiving cash)
“The Black community wants leaders who have the energy to actually stand up for the issues they want to fight for. And we see that in Donald Trump,” one man told Fox News. told the host. “You don’t necessarily see that from Joe Biden.”
Prospective voters continued to describe Trump as “visible” and asserted that many black voters believe “he has the energy and charisma to stand up and fight for the issues.” .
President Biden has recently faced concerns about his suitability for office following the conclusions of Special Counsel Robert Hur's report. The report says no criminal charges will be filed because the president “will likely be presented to the jury as a sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory, just as he was during our interview.” We conclude that this is highly possible.
“I think most black people are trying to find something different,” another man told Jones. “Many of us are waking up, especially black men.”
