Maricopa County park superintendent hired as Havasu Parks and Rec director | Local News Stories

Lake Havasu City has hired a new parks and recreation director. Gabrielle “Gabby” Vela will take up the role next month.

This position was previously held by Mike Keene worked in Lake Havasu City for nearly 10 years. Keene resigned from his position in April. Mayor Pro Tem Anthony Kozlowski is serving as interim director.

According to a city press release, Vella has 15 years of experience in parks and recreation. as Maricopa County Regional Parks Superintendent; Vera also worked as a recreation coordinator for the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department and as a recreation manager for the Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Department.

Mayor Jess Knudson said after an extensive search, they were excited to welcome Bella.

“She came to us with a passion for improving the quality of life for children of all ages. [has] “He has a great background in recreation and park maintenance,” Knudson said.

Vella is due to take up the role of director on July 15th.

“I am excited to join Lake Havasu City's Parks and Recreation Department,” Vela said, “I look forward to contributing to this vibrant community and working with other like-minded professionals. I am excited to interact with the team, residents and visitors.”
