YCMSP Treasurer and Scholarship Chair Chris Hill and Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Coordinator Steve Brazell presented the check to YCF Executive Director Mary Tarosi and Scholarship Coordinator Kelly O’Brien, who also serves as YC’s financial aid advisor.

Hill said seven Yavapai County students will benefit from the $1,000 scholarships: three from Prescott (Sarah Love, Gage Childers and Riley Crockett), two from Sedona (Elliot Friday and Ashley Stewart), one from Camp Verde (Anissa Pineda) and one from Seligman (Nia Rose Martinez). Three of the students will be enrolled in the YC nursing program.

This year, YCMSP awarded a total of $37,000 in scholarships.

The Ralph Hooker Scholarship is exclusively for students attending Yavapai College. The other scholarships are available to students at a university or college of their choice. Fourteen high school students and one homeschooled student received the scholarship this year, Hill said. This is the first time the scholarship has been awarded to a Wickenburg High School student.

The Posse began its scholarship program with a single $250 scholarship in 1958. Since then, approximately $660,000 has been donated to help Yavapai County high school seniors achieve their educational goals.

The Posse was started in 1941 to support the organization while its YCSO lieutenants were serving in the military during World War II, and holds four major scholarship fundraising events each year.

These include a May roping at the Prescott Fairgrounds – this year's roping event raised a record amount of donations – and other events include a golf tournament in August and a raffle for a Bill Nebecker bronze sculpture at the “Scholars Need Dollars” dinner in October.

The Yavapai College Foundation promotes student scholarships, faculty development and programs that enrich campus and community life.
