In an interview with Fox News, Sen. Katie Britt, who announced new in vitro fertilization (IVF) legislation earlier this week with her colleague Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), highlighted former President Donald Trump's unwavering support for IVF.
“First of all, it's a travesty to see a political prosecution of Donald Trump. But the thing about him is, he was a strong supporter of IVF. He formally started IVF and gave families the opportunity to bring life into the world. This bill provides protections for IVF so these families don't have to worry about IVF in the future,” Britt said.
“And we believe the Republican Party is the party of life. We are the party of opportunity, the party of families, and this measure will allow us to continue to do that.”
She concluded that the IVF Protection Act would allow this to continue.
Earlier this year, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that fertilized embryos are classified as children under state law, prompting Alabama lawmakers, supported by Governor Kay Ivey, to enact measures to protect IVF clinics from civil and criminal liability.

President Trump's support for IVF became clear in February following the state Supreme Court's initial ruling, when he told Truth Social, “Under my leadership, the Republican Party will always support creating strong, thriving and healthy American families. We want to make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder!”
Senators Britt and Cruz (R-TX) have introduced the IVF Protection Act to ensure IVF services are available nationwide. This federal bill seeks to prevent states from banning IVF by disqualifying them from receiving Medicaid funding if they do.
