California Gov. Newsom is moving his family back to Marin County

Gov. Gavin Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, plan to bring their family back to Marin County, a spokesman said Monday.

Newsom and his first partner grew up in Marin County, an enclave just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, and raised their four children there before Newsom became governor in 2018. They plan to enroll their children in Marin County schools in the fall.

“To ensure continuity in their children's education, the family will split their time between Sacramento and Marin for the upcoming school year,” spokeswoman Izzy Gurdon said, confirming the news as first reported. Politico, The children would be living with relatives, he added.

Shortly after the two-term governor was first elected, the couple sold their Marin County home and bought a six-bedroom, 12,000-square-foot house for $3.7 million in the Fair Oaks neighborhood, 15 miles from the state Capitol in Sacramento.

Newsom, whose current term ends in January 2027, will become the third consecutive governor to live in more than one place during his term in office.

Jerry Brown made it clear to reporters during his first public appearance after being elected governor in 2010 that his Oakland home would be his permanent address. Five years later, Brown was living in a loft in downtown Sacramento before moving into the newly renovated Governor's Mansion.

Arnold Schwarzenegger liked to spend nights at his Brentwood mansion and famously commuted three hours between LA and Sacramento on a private jet.
