Hunter Biden's license to practice law in Washington, D.C., was suspended on Tuesday as a result of his felony conviction.
Hunter Biden was convicted earlier this month of three felony counts for purchasing a revolver while high on drugs. order The suspension of his attorney's license states that these crimes are “serious crimes as defined in D.C. Bar Rule XI” and bars him from practicing law immediately until the issues are formally resolved.
“The Commission on Professional Ethics is directed to institute a formal proceeding to determine the nature of the offense and whether it constitutes moral turpitude within the meaning of the D.C. Code,” the court order states.
Hunter Biden, who remained a “member in good standing” with the bar for several months after his legal troubles began, tried to negotiate a plea deal last summer in which he would have pleaded guilty to two tax evasion counts and been cleared of a felony firearms charge, but the deal fell apart after Judge Maryellen Noreika questioned a clause that gave him broad immunity. Biden was also indicted in December on a felony charge of failing to pay more than $1.4 million in back taxes. His trial is scheduled to begin in September in California.
Hunter Biden remains a member of the Connecticut State Bar but has been administratively suspended since 2021 for “failure to pay Client Protection Fund fees,” according to the Connecticut Department of Justice website. show.
Hunter Biden's lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
