Former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix selected in first round of NFL Draft

Former Auburn University quarterback Bo Nix, who committed to Oregon prior to the 2022 season, was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night.

The Denver Broncos selected Knicks with the 12th overall pick in the draft.

Nix was the sixth quarterback selected in the first half of the draft, tying the previous record of six in the first round set in 1983.

It wasn't a huge shock that the Knicks were selected at that point, considering the Atlanta Falcons had made a shocking move by selecting quarterback Michael Pennis Jr. from the Knicks' former rival Washington with the eighth overall pick, leaving the Knicks with only a capable first-round draft pick left.

Nix was a standout player at Pinson Valley High School before playing his first three seasons at Auburn University, where his father was the star quarterback.

But things didn't go well for him on the Plains, and injuries marred his final season at Auburn.

After transferring to the University of Oregon, Nix's collegiate career soared under head coach Dan Lanning.

After throwing for nearly 3,600 yards with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2022, Nix looked poised to break out in 2023, and that's exactly what happened.

He threw for an astounding 4,500 yards, 45 touchdowns, only three interceptions and six rushing touchdowns last season, which made him a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, finishing third behind winner Jayden Daniels and runner-up Jr.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton said after Denver selected Nicks that he was the quarterback the team had always wanted, praising Nicks' accuracy, arm strength and intelligence.

Nix will immediately be competing for a starting spot in Denver, sharing a room with fellow former Auburn gunslinger Jarrett Stidham and former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, whose career with the Jets ended after three seasons.
