A home in Shelton, Connecticut was intentionally set on fire by local firefighters after a large number of fireworks were set off inside a garage on the property.

The Shelton Fire Department (SFD) first responded to the home on June 22 when “flames were visible from the front of the home,” according to a press release on SFD's Facebook page. The occupants of the home were able to safely evacuate before emergency responders arrived.

According to a press release posted to Facebook by the Shelton Police Department (SPD), when firefighters arrived on scene, the fire continued to spread and fireworks were still being set off. After the fire was extinguished, Shelton “officers discovered numerous fireworks in the garage and basement of the residence during the ensuing investigation,” the release said. “Based on the situation [of] “A decision was made not to remove the fireworks from the residence, and officials decided to re-ignite those inside the residence to further mitigate the impact as a safety precaution,” SPD continued.

A video taken by Douglas Healy and obtained by the New York Post appears to show a controlled burning.

According to a press release from the Shelton Police Department, police and the Shelton Fire Chief's Office (SFMO) received a court order to administer the controlled burn and “issued a state of emergency to local residents regarding activity in the area.”

Police say arrests are expected to be made in connection with the investigation.

The Police Department's Bureau of Investigation and the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit are also investigating the incident, NBC Connecticut reported. report.
