Yavapai County Deputy Prosecutor Anthony Garcia.

The award was presented to Garcia at MADD's 35th Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane said, “Tony came to my office approximately nine months ago after a long career as a federal law enforcement officer. Tony's legal skills and exemplary work ethic have impressed everyone he interacts with – judges, victims, law enforcement officers and even defense attorneys. I am very pleased that among all prosecutors in the state of Arizona, Tony's excellence in prosecuting drunk drivers has been recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.”

“For anyone who thinks they can 'take the risk' of driving while drunk, think again. Your risky choices put not only yourself at risk, but your family and everyone you share the road with. Call a cab or arrange a ride. Driving while drunk in Yavapai County will be severely prosecuted and you will face jail time.”

The MADD Hero Awards were established to recognize police officers, emergency responders and court officials who are dedicated to MADD's mission of eliminating drunk driving, combating drugged driving, supporting victims of violent crime and preventing underage drinking.

Garcia has demonstrated his commitment to this shared mission when prosecuting cases involving suspects who are accused of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Garcia often seeks the maximum penalties allowed by law, stating that he does so because the individual poses a danger to themselves and the community at large.
