A staff member of Mississippi Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson has been fired after suggesting “target practice” following Saturday's assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Thompson's field director, Jacqueline Marshaw, reportedly made the post shortly after Trump was attacked at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“I do not condone violence but please take shooting lessons so you don't screw up next time. Oh no, that's not what I said,” Marshaw's now-deleted post said, according to the Clarion Ledger. report.

“I was made aware of the posting by a staff member who is no longer under my employment,” Thompson said in a statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The post drew backlash from the Mississippi Republican Party, which called for the staffer to be fired.

The FBI identified the suspect as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks allegedly fired the shots from an “elevated position” on the roof of a building, about 400 feet away from Trump. according to According to the New York Times, the Secret Service neutralized the suspect shortly after Trump was shot.
