‘Exactly What We Need’: Undecided Voter Panel Leans Toward Trump After GOP Convention

Following the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Friday, undecided voters said they were leaning toward former President Donald Trump.

Trump spoke for more than an hour and a half at the Thursday night event, where he formally accepted the Republican presidential nomination and spoke about the July 13 assassination attempt that took place during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, that left Trump slightly injured, killed former volunteer fire chief Cory Comperatore and seriously injured two other attendees. One voter said the June 27 debate between Trump and President Joe Biden helped fuel their decision. “I think the defining moment for me was the debate with Biden, but the biggest issue for me is the economy,” Kaitlyn Singleton told “Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones. “I've got three kids at home. What's the plan for the economy? Gas is expensive. Food is expensive. How am I going to make my money last longer? How am I going to grow my retirement savings?”

The Consumer Price Index rose 3.0% from a year earlier in June, slightly below economists' expectations, but prices have risen more than 20% since Biden took office.

“The biggest issue for me right now is the border, and I feel the same with the economy. The cost of living is just tough,” Mary Bivens told Jones. “You know, COVID has had a big impact, but we need something to stabilize. I think this debate has shown who can run this country and who can't. And then the tragedy proved that. And that's what we need. That's exactly what we need at this point. So I'm not as undecided as I was at the beginning.”

Another undecided voter pointed to the assassination attempt and President Trump's response afterward.

“Biden's out, and I can't imagine any Democrat being able to pick up the torch and keep it going,” said Rick Gagliano, who said he's still deciding between Trump and independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “But I think Trump is more likely because I definitely thought he had a hero moment after the assassination attempt. He really stood out: 'This is America. I'm strong. I can handle this.' That's what I think. And I think he'll be gentler, I mean, more gentle in his approach. So, while there are still issues, I think I'm leaning toward Trump.” (RELATED: Donald Trump Jr. Orders MSNBC Reporter to 'Get Out of Here' During Republican National Convention Debate)
