Hollywood Donors Jump On Kamala’s Bandwagon As Biden Bails

Within hours of President Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race, top Hollywood donors wrote checks in support of Vice President Kamala Harris' possible nomination as the Democratic presidential nominee.

Biden announced Sunday afternoon that he wouldn't seek reelection in 2024 and endorsed Harris' surprise bid for the Democratic nomination. Within hours, Hollywood's top donors had pounced on Harris. according to Until the deadline.

“I feel more excited and motivated than I have in months, and everyone I've talked to says the same thing,” a longtime donor told the outlet. “Harris is going to win, and that's great. Everybody knows her and everybody likes her.”

“This is a whole new situation, but we're in it to win,” said one government executive and Democratic donor after Sunday's announcement. “My phone was ringing off the hook. I had loads of people saying they were going to double their donations,” said another major Biden supporter. James Costos, a former HBO executive and U.S. ambassador to Spain who is also a staunch Biden supporter, stood by his decision. “It's been an honor to have been with them along the way and I'm grateful to everyone who supported them when we called in 2020 and throughout this election,” Costos said. “The mission remains the same: to win the White House, and every call I had today with supporters and donors tells me we are ready to hit the ground running next week with renewed energy and determination.”

But not everyone feels the same way.

“We need to take a breath and make sure we have the right candidate, not the obvious one,” another reportedly well-funded donor told Deadline. One insider argued that Biden is “doing exactly the same thing to the party that Obama foolishly did in 2016: foisting a weak, unpopular candidate on us.”

Harris is not currently the Democratic nominee, and most notably, former President Barack Obama has not endorsed her candidacy.
