John King Reveals One Of The Key Things That Voters Noticed About Biden

CNN's John King said Wednesday night that President Joe Biden's “low profile” has led voters to question “whether he's fit for the office of the presidency.”

King appeared on “Anderson Cooper 360” with a group of commentators to discuss the reaction to Biden's first address to the nation since dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. When CNN host Anderson Cooper asked how much the public would see of Biden, King questioned what Biden could accomplish with the remainder of his term, before alluding to his low profile before giving up on reelection. “One of the reasons voters asked 'Is he the right person for the job' so far ahead of Washington is because Harris has been a low-profile president so far — much lower profile than Donald Trump, but even lower profile than Trump, who was always very present,” King said. “So I think that's an interesting question for Harris and her staff: How do they pick that moment? When is it beneficial to be there? How much authority do they give Harris on that?”

Prior to his response, King said Biden's profile would depend on “how much he can get done” and noted Ukraine was “still on the ballot” in the 2024 presidential election.

“Tomorrow he's going to have a very difficult meeting with the prime minister of Israel. You've heard the president talk about NATO and he's going to fight for Ukraine. Ukraine is on the vote. Joe Biden is not on the vote, but America's role in the world is on the vote,” King said.

“As Evan pointed out, when he sees an opportunity, he becomes a very prideful, incredibly stubborn man. Even if he has come to terms with the political calculation, I know he is angry and upset about this. I know his heart is troubled. So what can he do to earn his own merit? And again, if he is going to stand up for America and the world,” King continued. “Domestically, there is nothing Congress can do, and it won't do, but is there anything that can be done through executive action? He will look for those opportunities, and you're right.”

The president drew fierce criticism from Democrats and political commentators following Biden's poor debate performance, when he was unable to finish his sentence and stopped mid-sentence during a debate with former President Donald Trump.

With some Democrats questioning Biden's mental health and ability to serve another four terms, a CBS/YouGov poll after the debate showed Indicated Seventy-two percent of Americans believe Biden does not have the mental and cognitive health necessary to serve as president, up seven points from the previous survey in early June.

Before the debate, traditional and other media outlets downplayed Biden's mental health, accusing Republicans of questioning the president's mental health and pushing through despite Biden's multiple public gaffes. At a July 23 press conference, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called video clips circulating online of Biden making gaffes “cheap fakes” orchestrated by Republicans.
