‘Apocalyptic’: MSNBC Panel Dedicates Segment To Analyzing Prayers At Trump Rallies

The “Morning Joe” panel spent more than eight minutes discussing former President Donald Trump's prayer at a rally during a segment on Monday.

in article In a story published Monday morning, The Atlantic reporter Mackay Coppins looked back on the prayers at Trump's rallies since he announced his 2024 presidential bid in November 2022. “If this candidate loses, what is the point of these rallies, these religions, these prayers that are being scattered amongst the crowds of Trump supporters?” Palmieri asked Coppins about the prayers she described as “apocalyptic.”

clock:

“I think the concern that you're talking about is the same concern that was swirling around in my head when I was studying these prayers, which is, of course, if you believe that this election is a battle between good and evil and that God is on your side, then you have no choice but to believe that something is wrong if your side loses,” Coppins told Palmieri during the appearance. “It sows the seeds of conspiracy theories. It sows the seeds of election denialism.”

Many of Trump's supporters claim that his survival of the July 13 assassination attempt was due to divine intervention. according to The idea has been ridiculed by some Democrats, such as strategist James Carville, according to The New York Times.

Coppins then turned his attention to a scenario of what would happen if Trump were to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris in the election.

“I'm almost equally concerned about what would happen if Trump wins. At the end of the article I quote a prayer from Iowa where the pastor promises that if Donald Trump is re-elected, there will be just retribution against those who seek to do wrong,” Coppins said.

“Again, I think both sides are guilty of setting the stakes of the election too high. But this is an example that if you believe God is on your side, it's very dangerous to believe that not only is victory a mandate for the election, but that it's God's mandate for you to do whatever you want. So I think we need to think about that and keep it in the back of our minds as we see the rhetoric coming out of the Trump campaign.”
