A homeowner on Tuesday described to the New York Post the terrifying moment their house was uprooted from its foundation and swept away into a nearby creek, an incident that was caught on video.
The small town of Oxford, Connecticut, was hit by a storm that caused unprecedented flooding, with homes collapsing into swollen rivers. video Video of the incident showed the relentless rains destroying the foundations and washing away the two-storey home. According to According to the New York Post, homeowner Randi Marcusio, an emergency room nurse and single mother, managed to escape with her young son in the nick of time, averting disaster.

“The deck started to collapse. The oil tanks came off the house. Slowly but surely, over the course of hours, everything started to collapse. The basement started to collapse. A big part of the basement collapsed. And the second floor was left hanging in the air,” Mauricio told the New York Post. (RELATED: Video shows destruction from storm that killed at least 30)
As Marcusio was preparing dinner, the storm intensified and floodwaters destroyed her house, including her deck. In the midst of the crisis, she helped her neighbors and looked after local children, which helped prevent the floodwaters from destroying her house. Afterwards, only rubble remained where her house had been. According to the New York Post, Marcusio revealed that she did not have flood insurance.
Despite the tragedy, the single mother remains hopeful thanks to her son's love: “My son is wonderful, he's very smart, he's a happy boy and he knows something is wrong but he's happy to see his mother,” Marcusio said, according to the outlet.
