Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro told “The View” on Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris shouldn't “underestimate” Republican nominee Donald Trump ahead of the upcoming presidential debate.
Harris and Trump are set to face off for the first time on ABC News on September 10, the vice president's first debate appearance since entering the presidential race, and Shapiro warned that Trump is a “skilled debater” and a good “showman” and should be taken seriously on the debate stage.
“Look, we want to criticize Donald Trump and say, 'He's a liar, he's this whole thing,' but as I think you've said before, people know who Donald Trump is,” Shapiro told his co-hosts on “The View.” “He's a skilled debater. He's someone who will say anything at any time to answer a question. And he's also a showman and has been on television before. So don't underestimate Donald Trump.”
Shapiro then said Harris is “very tough” and will be well prepared for the “tough debate.”

Trump debated President Joe Biden on June 27 while he was still in the 2024 presidential race, but he withdrew from the race on July 21 after the president's performance caused leading members of the Democratic Party to lose confidence in Trump's ability to beat the former president. During a surprise Aug. 8 press conference at Mar-a-Lago, President Trump invited Harris to participate in three debates in September. In early August, President Trump agreed to participate in a Fox News debate on Sept. 4, moderated by Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier, but Harris has pledged to only participate in the ABC News debate.
The 90-minute debate will be held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, with microphones muted until it is the candidates' turn to speak. According to To ABC News.
Pollster Frank Luntz said Monday that Trump has the ability to ask questions Harris can't answer about inflation, policy and how life under Trump compares to life under Harris and President Joe Biden's administration.
