One of Greenpeace's founders told the Daily Caller News Foundation he hopes Greenpeace USA loses the lawsuit that threatens the organization's survival.
Patrick Moore is Listed A man who Greenpeace sought to distance himself from as one of its founders on its website until 2007 told the DCNF that he hopes Greenpeace USA loses a major lawsuit filed against the group by a company called Energy Transfer. The company is seeking $300 million in damages from Greenpeace USA in a North Dakota lawsuit that alleges the group or its affiliates instigated mass protests against Energy Transfer's Dakota Access Pipeline, funded various attacks aimed at damaging the project, and orchestrated a smear campaign against the company and its development.
“They really should embrace sound science. They ignore vital facts and make up lies to replace them. So I hope they learn a lesson from this,” Moore told DCNF about his old group and the lawsuit it faces. “Science is about truth and then you set policy. These people personally set policy and then they lie about the science behind it. It's totally corrupted science in a lot of countries in the world, especially in Western countries. I have to say they've become kind of a spoiled brat. And they don't have good science.” (Related article: Environmental activist who vandalized Stonehenge describes being bullied by fellow Americans who yelled “oil”)

Greenpeace USA “certainly” deserves to lose, Moore told DCNF. “They're basically trying to destroy transportation and a lot of other things. There's no question, no question at all, that pipelines are the safest way to transport liquids, especially flammable liquids.”
Moore played a “key role” in Greenpeace Canada. According to He joined Greenpeace but left in 1986 when he felt the organisation had become too radical. Despite listing him as a founder until 2007, Greenpeace now has a website explaining that Moore does not represent the organisation and is not a founder.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Energy Transfer's billionaire chairman, Kelcy Warren, is behind the company's lawsuit. Reported Warren has previously said that environmentalists “should be removed from the gene pool” and says she sees them as a major threat to the energy industry and will not be afraid to go after them for the problems they've caused for the company and the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Meanwhile, some top leaders of Greenpeace USA are fighting internally over what kind of settlement with the company would be acceptable, according to the WSJ. But even if Energy Transfer wins its lawsuit, it may have trouble enforcing penalties because Greenpeace's Dutch central coordinating agency has no assets in the U.S.
A representative for Greenpeace USA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
