Group Of Otters Attack, Seriously Injure Jogger: REPORT

A woman jogging in Malaysia was attacked by a pack of otters and left seriously injured, according to a Viral Press report cited by multiple media outlets.

The woman, who has not been named, said she was attacked by a pack of eight otters on Wednesday morning at Tanjung Aru Recreation Park in Sabah, Malaysia. Viral PressTMZ Reported.

Videos and photos circulating on social media show a middle-aged woman covered in blood sitting on the curb. The Star reported she suffered injuries to her legs, arms and head, and included images of what appear to be her injuries. Later video appears to show a pack of otters running around the car park.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the group of otters had entered the recreation centre to forage for food in the park's pond,” Sabah Wildlife Department director Roland Oliver Niung said. said Daily Mail.

Niung told the media that a colony of otters was known to live near the park and that authorities had noticed changes in the animals' behaviour after humans fed them.

According to the government, the fence surrounding the park will be strengthened, TMZ reported, and visitors to the park are being urged to avoid contact with the animals to prevent conflicts, the Daily Mail reported.

Reports of otter attacks are rare but not uncommon: In November 2023, a California man claimed he was attacked by an otter, leaving him with 40 puncture wounds. According to KCRA3.

“They were so aggressive I literally thought they wanted to kill me,” Matt Leffers told the outlet.

Leffers was reportedly swimming in Lake Serene near Lake Tahoe at the time of the incident.

“I felt something bite my calf,” he told KCRA 3. “Within seconds it bit me again. And then I started to hurry up and swim away, and the otter was right in front of me and bit me again.”
