Seligman, AZ (AZFamily) — An altercation that began over a barking dog has led to the shooting death of a man and charges against another man in Yavapai County this weekend.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to an incident that occurred late in the afternoon of Aug. 18 near Old Highway 66 in Seligman.
When police arrived, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Seligman Fire Rescue were already on scene and took the suspect, Chad Ternaski, 48, into custody. The 67-year-old victim was shot in the abdomen and airlifted to a hospital in Flagstaff, according to YCSO.
An initial investigation revealed that Ternasky began yelling at the victim's dog, which was barking in a parked car, while the victim was nearby. Black Cat Bar According to YCSO, the officer objected to the yelling and an argument ensued.
Witnesses reported to police that Ternaski then walked to his vehicle, pulled out a gun and fired a shot at the victim. Witnesses rendered aid to the victim and were able to disarm and restrain Ternaski until emergency responders arrived.
Ternasky was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder.
YCSO said the victim is expected to recover.
