Democratic Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden has introduced legislation that would add six seats to the Supreme Court and fundamentally transform the federal judiciary, his office announced Thursday.

Currently, the Supreme Court has a majority of conservatives, and six of the nine justices were appointed by Republican presidents.
In addition to expanding the courts, the bill would require the Supreme Court and circuit courts to have a two-thirds majority to overturn laws passed by Congress on constitutional grounds. It also requires the IRS to “begin an audit of each judge's income tax return” and release the return within 60 days of filing. Democrats have repeatedly attacked conservative judges for alleged ethics violations since ProPublica first reported last year about Justice Clarence Thomas' paid trips with his friend, billionaire real estate developer Harlan Crowe. The Daily Caller News Foundation reported last year that ProPublica is funded by many of the same groups that called for Thomas to resign or be investigated.
According to the text of the bill, Supreme Court nominations that have been delayed in committee for more than 180 days would be automatically placed on the Senate's voting calendar.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell did not respond to requests for comment.
