Democratic Texas Rep. Colin Allred, who is running to unseat Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in November, told the House Armed Services Committee on Friday, according to a letter obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. , implored funding for transgender surgeries for military personnel.
Allred, along with four other Democratic House members, argued in a letter: regulations The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) prohibits military funding for transgender surgeries, effectively barring service members from receiving “medically necessary care.” Republicans are 'hurt' by not funding gender reassignment surgery through NDAA[ing] Allred and his allies say “our military preparedness” prevents service members who identify as transgender from focusing on their missions.
military health insurance already covered Hormone therapy and psychological counseling for transgender military personnel.
“Colin Allred is showing the Texans who he really is every day,” a Cruz campaign spokesperson told DCNF. “He is an extremist who will destroy Texas and America. His record on transgender issues puts our children and families at risk. The women and children of Texas want him to destroy Texas. We simply cannot afford to be the next U.S. senator to represent.” (Related article: Democrat challenging Ted Cruz promises to be tough on border – but he previously called ICE “un-American”)
Allred also took issue with provisions in the NDAA that ban the display of Pride flags and ban drag shows on military installations, arguing that the provisions create a “transgender book ban.” I am doing it.
“When service members are worried about their health care, their right to life, and the well-being of their children and loved ones, they are unable to focus on their work, which reduces military readiness and retention,” the letter states. It is written in “Ensuring our ranks reflect the diversity of the American people is essential to the morale and cohesion of our military and to our national security.”

As the race remains close, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee recently announced a multi-million dollar campaign targeting Republican incumbents in Texas, Florida and Nebraska.
DSCC Chairman Gary Peters: “Senate Democrats continue to expand and attack'' said in a press release Thursday. “DSCC has been preparing to take advantage of Sen. Cruz and Sen. Scott’s vulnerable position in the states all cycle, and now efforts in Texas and Florida are accelerating.”
Many of Allred's donors hold anti-police and anti-Israel views.
