Flu cases on the rise in Yuma County

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Flu season is upon us, and Yuma County and all of Arizona are seeing an increase in positive cases compared to last year.

According to the Arizona Department of Health, 37% of all flu cases are in children under the age of 18.

The 0-24 year old group has reported the highest number of cases this season.

Julie Coker, an infection prevention specialist at Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC), said she hopes flu cases will rise as people no longer need to practice social distancing since mask mandates were lifted in communities. says there is.

Flu symptoms to look out for are fever, chills, cough, runny nose, body aches and fatigue.

To prevent getting the flu, YRMC recommends getting the flu vaccine at your nearest clinic.

A one-year-old child or a child receiving a flu shot for the first time should receive two doses.
