The legacy of the past two Democratic presidents, President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden, has been one of appeasement in Iran’s efforts to dominate the Middle East and ultimately expand its influence through the acquisition of nuclear weapons. It will be.
Obama was the “Chamberlain” of the 21st century version of the appeasement of evil and dangerous British and French regimes. In 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain thought he had a secure peace treaty with Hitler – promising Britain “peace in our time” – but Hitler was in Czechoslovakia on the butt. They invaded the Republic and were forced to abandon it at the first opportunity.
By the mid-1930s, Nazi Germany’s plans to dominate Europe should have been obvious to Western leaders. Joseph Goebbels wrote in his diary:
“[I]This is what the French Prime Minister should have said in 1933 (and that’s what I would have said if I were French Prime Minister): “The new Prime Minister of the Empire is the man who wrote: my strugglesays this and that. This man cannot be tolerated near us. Either he disappears or we march! ‘But they didn’t do that. They left us alone and let us slip through the dangerous zones so we could sail around all the dangerous reefs. And when we were done and better armed than they were, they started the war! ”
Like Mr. Chamberlain, Mr. Obama, Mr. Biden and Mr. Harris appear to believe that “modern peace” can be achieved by placating Iran and strengthening its economy. The result was a completely predictable disaster. With sanctions relief and a huge increase in oil revenues, Iran has been able to expand its proxy wars against Israel and the United States through its proxies in Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq, Yemen, and possibly Sudan. .
The Biden administration has extended President Obama’s destructive policies, making Iran even more powerful and dangerous. Under the Trump administration, Iran has weakened considerably economically and militarily. Currently, Iran is trying to acquire nuclear weapons. This would allow its proxies to operate under the protection of Iran’s nuclear umbrella.
These developments pose the greatest current threat to peace and stability, particularly in the Middle East, and perhaps beyond. Historians will understand that today’s Iran is a modern version of Nazi Germany, and that Germany’s attempt to control the entire continent of Europe was at one time successful. This is not to say that Iran will become like Hitler’s genocidal Germany, but to express concern about Iran’s dangerous regional aspirations based on religious apocalyptic doctrines.
The only way to end this threat once and for all is through regime change. The Iranian people desperately wanted change of government Iran’s unpopular rulers, the mullahs, do not represent the more secular, Westernized, or even pro-American majority of the country’s population.
Regime change is always risky because it is impossible to predict what will replace even the most evil regime. The end of Iran’s monarchy in 1979 with the abdication of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was seen by many as progress, only for the mullahs and their replacement by the Islamic Republic to backfire. The threat of Iraq under deposed President Saddam Hussein has largely been replaced by a more adventurous Iran. Similar results occurred after other regime changes.
And even before Iran develops nuclear weapons, regime change will not be easy or cheap. Development makes it impossible for change to be produced from outside.
Apart from regime change, another step Biden could take would be to work with Israel to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, this cannot be achieved through further treaties or negotiations. Recent history has shown that Iran will simply deceive, as it did after President Obama’s JCPOA nuclear deal in 2015. The only way to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is a military attack on its nuclear facilities, many of which are located deep underground. This can be accomplished through military and intelligence cooperation between the United States and Israel.
Beware of traps. Iran may agree to end its nuclear weapons program if it truly believes the alternative is a military attack. Unfortunately, they are likely saying such things just to oust the Biden-Harris administration, which will secretly continue its nuclear weapons program.
Israel should not give up any military advantage in exchange for intangible promises. Look at how Russia violated its promise in the 1994 Budapest Memorandum to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity in exchange for Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons. Ukraine has given up its weapons. In 2014 and 2022, Russia invaded anyway.
The United States has promised to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons since the Obama administration, but given the US’ appeasement strategy under Democratic administrations, Iran has no reason to believe that.
Therefore, the only realistic alternative, the least harmful of a series of less favorable alternatives, is a joint military strike, as surgical as possible, against Iran’s nearly complete nuclear weapons program. Allowing Iran to cross the border and acquire nuclear weapons would be a devastating threat to world peace. On the other hand, preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons would be a major accomplishment for President Biden and a lasting positive legacy.
Given Iran’s recent ballistic missile and drone attacks on Israel, and Iran’s history of attacks on Americans dating back to 1983 and continuing until recently, both the United States and Israel have legal obligations to try to prevent them from becoming nuclear-armed. There is political and moral correctness. Iran. The only question is whether the United States has the determination to do so. At this point, it appears that the current administration has no intention of allowing Israel to act alone.
The result of inaction will be a nuclear-armed terrorist regime and a continuing global nuclear arms race. The responsibility for such a dangerous outcome lies squarely with the Democratic Party of Chamberlain.
