“The View” co-host Sarah Haines on Monday gave Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz a chance to sort out Vice President Kamala Harris’ answers about what makes her different from the current administration.
Harris faced widespread criticism after she told her co-host “The View” during an Oct. 8 appearance that she “couldn’t think of anything” that would be different from President Joe Biden. Ta. Haines gave Walz the option to answer that question during his appearance, prompting Walz to say he would focus on fixing the economy and Medicare.
“Governor, voters say change is an important issue in this election, but an ABC poll shows that only one-third of Americans believe the Harris-Waltz ticket will bring about change. That’s all,” Haynes said. “We would like to ask you a similar question to Vice President Harris that we asked Vice President Harris: List policy decisions over the past four years that you and the vice president would have handled differently than President Biden. Could you please?”
“Well, I wish this Medicare expansion had been proposed sooner,” Walz replied. “But look, they’re addressing necessary problems. They’re coming out of a pandemic that Donald Trump left in disarray, an economy where supply chains collapsed. But focusing on this economy. And the two things that this vice president proposed that you hear everywhere, especially in rural America, are the issues of affordable child care and ensuring that seniors have access to health care. It’s a matter of being able to protect. I think just last week we saw a massive rollout to protect rural hospitals. This is a big issue.”
Walz also claimed that Harris is a “leader in her own right” who will bring “new progress” if elected president. (Related: ‘The View’ co-host criticizes Harris for saying ‘I can’t think of anything’ she would do differently than Biden)
When asked Friday by NBC News’ White House correspondent Peter Alexander to name one policy that Biden would do differently, Harris said she would “criticize” any policy Biden would launch. He said he could not. The vice president has announced his intention to expand Medicare, give first-time homebuyers $25,000 in down payment assistance, and emphasize the importance of small businesses.
CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten said on his Oct. 4 show that an average of 28% of Americans believe the country is on the right track, setting a precedent for Democratic defeat in the November election. said.
