Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón released a request on October 24 regarding the fate of the Menendez brothers, asking them to be held accountable for possible parole.
“I believe they have paid their debt to society,” Gascón said.

The brothers shot their father Jose Menendez and mother Kitty Menendez 14 times in a 1989 attack inside their Beverly Hills home. The brothers were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. February 1996.
The Menendez brothers made headlines when they admitted to shooting their Hollywood executive father and mother because they feared their parents would kill them to stop sexual abuse accusations. Lyle was 21 years old and Eric was 18 at the time.

Earlier this month, Gascón released a landmark update on the case, saying he had a “moral and ethical obligation” to consider new evidence submitted by the brothers in 2023, the newspaper reported. CBS News. The case took a dramatic turn when Menudo, a former member of the band, came forward to say that she had been sexually abused by music industry executive Jose Menendez. This opens the door for an appeal because key evidence suggesting the Menendez brothers acted in self-defense was not admitted as part of the trial. TMZ.
“There are people in my office who believe they should never receive relief, and there are others who believe they should receive relief,” Gascón said, according to the newspaper. newsweek.

The hearing was originally scheduled for November 29, but was later postponed to October 24 in a Los Angeles courtroom.
