The Cheyenne County Cartel – The Burlington Record

Call them my three friends. Call them Perry and Pelton. Or Cheyenne County call him the Cartel. No matter how you look at it, it’s pretty amazing that three of the 35 Colorado senators this term (his 25% of Republican senators) were born and raised in the small town of Cheyenne Wells (population 758). That’s it. .

Senator Will’s oath on Thursday, January 12, completed the trio.

The fifth Senate district, vacated by Senator Rankin’s resignation, consists of Delta, Eagle, Garfield, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose and parts of Pitkin counties.

Will has been a member of the Council of State for the past four years and is ready to start working immediately. He was appointed a member of the Health and Social Welfare and Business, Labor and Technical Committees.

Senator Byron Pelton, who has served as Logan County Commissioner for the past six years, was elected to fill the vacancy left by Senator Jerry Sonnenberg in the First District of the Senate.

The district consists of Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Weld, and Yuma counties.

B. Pelton serves on the Agriculture and Natural Resources, Transportation and Energy, and Local Government and Housing Commissions.

Two bills he sponsored are already on the table and ready to be considered by the appropriate committees (SB23-036 and SB23-034).

Senator Rod Pelton has served as District 65’s state representative for the past four years and was moved to a new district during the 2020 redistricting.

He was elected to serve a Senate constituency (Senate District 35), which covers about 25% of the state’s area, and to serve that population.

His Senate districts include Baka, Bent, Cheyenne, Crowley, Parts of El Paso, Elbert, Huelfano, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Las Animas, Lincoln, Otello, and Proise.

He was elected to serve on the Agriculture and Natural Resources, Local Government and Housing, and Legislative Audit Committees.

He also has two bills scheduled for committee hearings, SB23-044 and SB 23-026.

Together, the “Cheyenne County Cartel” occupies part of at least 27 of Colorado’s 64 counties and covers approximately 50% of the entire eastern plains and the state’s land mass.

That’s a lot of land and a lot of people to be represented by three small-town country boys.

But rest assured, they do their best to make sure you hear everything in rural Colorado under the dome.

As far as we know, never before have three men from such a small town that so many people have never heard of represent such a large part of the state.

Maybe this will put Cheyenne Wells on the map!
