White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slammed Fox News correspondent Jackie Heinrich during Thursday’s White House press briefing, accusing her of distorting words about President-elect Donald Trump.
Heinrich said President Trump is a “threat to democracy” and President Joe Biden told the nation on Thursday that “Americans will be fine” and plans to disenfranchise Americans if re-elected. This is in contrast to the White House’s warning. The spokesperson said the Biden-Harris administration will respect the decisions of the American people and ensure a peaceful transition of power, as is customary for sitting presidents.
“This administration has sent a message to millions of Americans that if Trump wins and is disenfranchised, they will wake up the day after the election and our democracy will collapse. The president said today we’re fine. So how do you square that? Heinrich asked.
“I can square it. I’ve answered this question many times, so I’m going to square it in a way that hopefully makes sense. The American people made the decision, two days ago. There was an election on the night of, there was an election. And it was a free and fair election, and we respect the electoral process, and the American people spoke out. So the president’s job is to do that. The president’s job is to ensure that the It’s what the American people deserve and it’s really not complicated. It’s really as simple as that. And you know why? That’s the custom, that’s the custom. If you respect what the American people decide, that’s what you do. .”
Mr. Heinrich also asked whether the White House could “lead by example” after putting people’s lives in danger with the warning, which Mr. Jean-Pierre called “unfair.” (Related: ‘My heart is full today’: Kamala Harris addresses remaining supporters in concession speech)
“So is the message to those who are afraid by example based on the content of the message about the stakes?” Heinrich asked.
“Well, you’re just twisting everything, but it’s really unfair. No, no, Jackie, it’s not fair, because I respect what’s happened the last two nights and I’m here with respect. I have stood here and said that I respect the decisions made by the American people. I have stood here and said that I will put the American people first. I’m standing here. The president has said he’s going to do what they deserve, which is to ensure a peaceful transfer of power. And I’ve been very clear. We want to make sure that we serve the American people, and that’s what they deserve. They deserve a peaceful transition of power. Yes, you will see it.”
The White House has repeatedly denounced Trump and his supporters as an “extremist threat to our democracy” and has sought to outline the dangers of a second term for the current president-elect. Jean-Pierre said in a press conference on October 23 that the White House’s official position is that President Trump is a “fascist.”
