Trump Picks Florida Rep. Mike Waltz As New National Security Advisor

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday nominated Republican Florida Rep. Mike Walz to be his White House national security adviser, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Walz, a veteran Green Beret, has served in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa. According to To WSJ. Since being elected to Congress in 2019, Walz has advocated for more European aid to Ukraine and a more disciplined approach to U.S. aid, in line with the president-elect’s key foreign policy goals.

Walz has expressed interest in joining the administration and was previously considered a candidate to lead the Pentagon, the Journal reported. President Trump’s first term saw significant turnover in the role of national security adviser.

According to WJS, Michael Flynn resigned after just a few weeks in office amid intense scrutiny over his contacts with Russia, followed by McMaster, John Bolton and Robert O’Brien. President Trump also nominated New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik to serve as the United States’ ambassador to the United Nations.
