Liberals across the political spectrum reacted with anger and disbelief Wednesday to President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to be the next attorney general.
Many see this as a devastating blow to American democracy, and Gaetz’s nomination is a calculated test of the loyalty of Senate Republicans who will use the Justice Department as a vehicle for political revenge. It is analyzed that this is an expression of President Trump’s determination to do so. Critics say Gates lacks both the qualifications and impartiality essential to the top of the nation’s legal profession.
Former prosecutor Andrew Wiseman called Gaetz’s nomination “a laughing stock of the right,” accusing Trump of appointing someone who is not only unqualified but also represents the “weaponization” of government. did. in exterior Wiseman warned on MSNBC’s “Deadline: The White House” of a dystopian scenario reminiscent of 1984, where facts and laws are given little weight.
