Santa Cruz River Valley: Birthplace of the Anza Trail
Much of the story of the Anza Trail can be seen in the Santa Cruz River Valley.

Distinct Culture: These are the ancestral homelands of the O’odham people. The intersection of Spanish colonization and indigenous culture can be experienced at Mission San Xavier del Bac.

Families and Sacrifice: The 30 families of the Anza Expedition took great risks for a chance at a better life. The only person who died on this long and dangerous journey was a mother giving birth near Kanoa Ranch.

Military: Tubac Presidio State Historical Park and Museum tells the story of military life on the Spanish colonial frontier.

Recreation: Enjoy miles of trails managed by the Anza Trail Coalition of Arizona and Pima County.
Faith: At Tumacacori National Historical Park, consider the role faith and religion played in Spanish colonization.

Nature: Las Lagunas de Anza preserves wetlands that served as campsites for the Anza expedition. Enjoy mesquite bosques, riparian habitat, expansive views, and wildlife along the trail.
