Democratic New York Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday he is ready to discuss deporting illegal immigrants who commit crimes with incoming border czar Tom Homan.
Adams, who is grappling with New York City’s burgeoning immigration crisis, said he is ready to work with President-elect Donald Trump to tackle rising crime rates caused by illegal immigrants. He dismissed concerns about outrage on the political left over the city’s intention to deport dangerous residents.
“These people here are committing crimes, robberies, shooting police officers, raping innocent people, and they are harming our country. I sit back and say, “How do we deal with them?” I’d like to hear your plans for that,” Adams said. “It’s them I’m talking about, and I would love to sit down with the border czar and hear his thoughts on how to deal with people who harm our people. What’s interesting? You know, I was talking to my team the other day, you know, go back and google Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, what they said about people committing crimes in our cities. And google what they said in our country. “Those who commit crimes should leave immediately.” This is not a new position, as that was their position. ”
“Because in the era of cancel culture, no one is afraid to be honest about the truth. Well, cancel it, I’m going to protect the people of this city. And if you’re in this country, this city… “If you’re going to come and harm innocent New Yorkers, innocent immigrants and asylum seekers, then this is not the mayor you want in this city.”
Mr. Homan served as Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2017 and 2018. intend He vowed to carry out President Trump’s mass deportation plan in a “humane way” and carry out the largest “deportation operation” in U.S. history. He said in a recent interview that deportation efforts would first target people who pose a risk to public safety. New York City is facing a surge in illegal immigration, raising concerns about safety risks and crime. There are reportedly more than 58,000 undocumented immigrants currently in New York City who have been convicted or face pending criminal charges. According to Based on ICE data first reported by the New York Post.
In September 2023, Adams warned that the immigration crisis would “destroy” cities and criticized the Biden-Harris administration for giving him “no support.” At a committee hearing in April, New York City officials called on President Joe Biden and Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to step up their response to the immigration crisis.
Homan suggested in a Nov. 26 interview on Fox News that Democratic governors and mayors who obstruct the incoming administration’s deportation efforts could face prison time. Democratic Mayor Mike Johnston of Denver, Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts, and Governor of California Gavin Newsom have threatened to use their powers to: block Trump administration efforts to deport undocumented immigrants living in cities and states.
