Now we’re cooking!
President-elect Donald Trump and International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach will work as a team at the United States’ first Summer Olympics Since 1996 It was held in Atlanta. Prior to Thursday, Bach had expressed concerns about his partnership with President Trump after a very tense exchange with him in 2017.
Fast forward to today, and Bach is now praising Trump, talking about their first conversation together since Trump declared victory in the 2024 election.
“We are very confident in the measures and efforts that are being taken,” Bach said at a press conference after the IOC Executive Board meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland. “We also saw that President-elect Trump has repeatedly expressed support for the Olympics, and we never had any doubts because he expressed this support from the beginning.” (Related article: Crystal Palace’s Mark Gehi, whose LGBT armband says ‘I Love Jesus’)
Bach also said that Olympic officials are “very confident and relaxed” about working with the 45th and 47th presidents.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Bach’s first interaction dates back to June 2017, when they met at the White House to discuss the United States’ bid to host the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, which Mr. Trump credits with his accomplishments. That said, Bach wasn’t Trump’s biggest fan after the fact.
“Please pray for our world,” Bach said during a phone call, despite the deal being reached with Trump.
And now he’s a fan too! Surprisingly, things have changed a lot.
